Thankful Thursday

Ok, so I'm stealing this from some other blogs, but it seems to be the time of year, so here goes:

1) I'm thankful for my husband, you know, the HWWTM. He makes me crazy most of the time, but he loves me, he takes care of me and my children, and he is totally trustworthy and accountable. He allows me to live the lifestyle that I do, so that I can enjoy the life that I have with him, my children and my friends. So, thank you, you workaholic.

2) I'm thankful for my children, all 4 of them, ages 24, 22, 20 and 14. You'd think at those ages, I'd have all kinds of problems and would constantly be putting out fires. But they're great and only get into little minor altercations here and there. (Hope I didn't just jinx myself) The oldest, my only daughter - TD (teacher daughter) - is in her third year of teaching school, 3rd grade this year. She is also working on here Master's degree. The second, my oldest son (OS) is attending school fulltime working on his MBA and is considering going to law school next year. My middle son (MS) is a junior at LSU, is active in his fraternity and also plans to get his MBA after graduation. YS, my youngest son is a freshman in high school. He gets good grades (but could get better if he opened a book), plays football and pole vaults.

3) I'm thankful for my friends. I have a great group of friends that I play tennis with a few times a week. We get together and knit and play bridge once or twice a week. We have fun. We laugh. We cut up, and we're there for each other when one of us is going through something with our families. I could not make it without them.

I think this is the first post I've ever done without pictures. Ha. Have a great week.

It's Over!!!

Football season for OS is over. Over for good. Over forever. He's been playing since he was ten years old and played through college. This past Saturday was his last game. And guess how he went out. His very last play was to catch a touchdown pass. What a way to go out, huh? So proud of him and all that he's accomplished.

Finished Object: Just Enough Ruffles in Sanguine Gryphon Bugga! Dragon Millipede colorway doubled on size 9 needles. This pattern was so fun and went so fast. I really enjoyed working with this pattern and yarn. I see more of these in my future. I think it took me about 5 days to make. I had enough yarn leftover to make another row or two on the ruffle.

Another FO: Mushroom hat from Purlbee.com on size 5 and 7 needle done in Yarntini True Love sportweight. It's supposed to be for my 5 y/o great-niece, but it fits an adult, so I guess I'll be making yet another hat. I thought 3rd time would be the charm, but . . .

Some nice Wollmeise yarns that I received in trades on Ravelry - top to bottom: Tiefer See Wild Thing, Maus Alt, Maus Alt WD, and Johannisbeer and Brennessel.

Some beautiful Sanguine Gryphon Bugga! in Sooty Dancer colorway. I see another Just Enough Ruffles in the future.

The Loopy Ewe November Sock Club Kit includes Numma Numma The Usual in Red Bartlett Pear colorway, a great pattern by Debbie O'Neill and some neat little knitting gadgets.

An upclose and personal shot of the yarn . . . very "fallish"

Yarntini's monthly offering called Drunken Pear - it looks like a beautiful Christmas color.

Oh, and a couple of beautiful Wollmeise skeins called Chim Chim Chimney, which was offered to those who purchased a calendar. Oh, yea, I forgot to tell you about the calendar. It's a great calendar filled with men and yarn and that's all I'm sayin'.

Hope you have a great week.

Whatta Sock is Supposed to Look Like . . .

Now, this is whatta sock is supposed to look like . . .

Remember this (see middle sock in photo below) . . . I mean, is it me, or what? Does it look a little unusual to anyone else? This is the yarn and pattern that came with the September Socks That Rock kit. Beautiful yarn and great pattern, or so I thought. I usually make the kits as they come in just as the pattern is written. It helps stretch me out of my comfort zone. Usually I'm a top-down, heel-flap kinda girl, just sayin'. Next time, I'm going to trust my instincts, and, if a pattern says to increase at the ankle, well, I'm just not gonna do it.

The good news is that I was able to get a pair of socks out of the leftovers with a few yards leftover. These will probably be gifted to someone for Christmas.
Below is my Just Enough Ruffles in Sanguine Gryphon Bugga! colorway - Dragon Millipede. It is so fast and easy. I'm already on the ruffle, which is 600 stitches per row.

An upclose photo of the colors . . .

And a new little project I started yesterday. It's called a Mushroom Hat from Purlbee. The body of the hat is a little larger to accommodate a ponytail. I'm making it out of Yarntini True Love in sportweight on size 5 (ribbing) and 7 (body of hat) needles. So cute. For my great-niece. . .

Don't you just love when this happens? I finally just cut it and started knitting after an hour. Will have to go back and untangle at some point though.

I would just like to add that I know the designer of the sock (the sock) in the second picture is a great designer, and I am not trying to put down on her. This is just not my taste.
Have a great week.

WIP'S

Just wanted to share a few WIP's with you all. This first one is Just Enough Ruffles in Sanguine Gryphon's Dragon Millipede. I'm working it doubled on size 9 needles. It is so soft and squishy - because it has a touch of cashmere - yum.

This second one is a Baktus scarf worked in Wollmeise Zenzi and Vroni - alternating colors every 2 rows - on size 5 needles.

Thirdly, I decided not to make the second sock of the Socks That Rock club (remember the one with the baggy ankles), and started over with a pattern that I enjoyed doing from last year's club. The yarn is River Rocked in mediumweight on size 2 (3.0 mm) needles. The pattern is called Holidazed by Anne Hanson. I am enjoying this much more. And it goes so fast.

Just wanted to throw in a little pic of me and TD in Sewanee, Tennessee, last week. OS played football there, and she goes to every game of his, even driving 3 hours to all of his home games. Isn't she the best sister ever?

Here's YS at his JV game Thursday night. He's playing pretty well considering he's never played tackle football before now.

Will be knitting most of the afternoon watching a little football - LSU vs Bama. OS has an off week this weekend, so I'll be home.
Have a great weekend.

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures . . .

Long time, no blog. I know, and I have no excuse for it. I've been busy, but I don't know what I've been doing. I have been knitting, though. I finished my Knotty Gloves in Wollmeise Brombeere. This is a beautiful deep maroon color that is our high school color. I pushed to finish the fingers last night and blocked them today so I can wear them tomorrow night to the football game. I am so excited. I love them. I will probably make another pair in the future, but not any time soon. The glove itself is fairly easy; the fingers are just fiddly and tedious. But the outcome is awesome.

I got this gorgeous colorway in a trade on Ravelry. It's Wollmeise Mon Cheri (a chocolate filled with cherry and liquor). It is so beautiful.

This is a Wollmeise we're different bag - Gewitterhimmel, Versuch, Fleiderbusch, Red Hot Chili, and Kornblume.

A few other things I got in Ravelry trades - all Wollmeise top to bottom: Granatapfel (pomegranate), Rittersporn (delphinium) and La Gitane (the gypsy).

Introducing one of my new obsessions - Bugga! by The Sanguine Gryphon - almost as hard to get as WM, but she does announce when she is doing an update. This one is called Dragon Millipede. I have another one on its way. I think I'm going to double it and knit it on 9's or 10's into a ruffly scarf. Oh, did I mention it has some cashmere in it?

And a Pumpkin Spice stripe from Yarntini in sportweight. . .

A few things I've donated to our high school fundraiser - a felted bag, a pair of socks, a market bag, a scarf in school colors and 2 berets.

And last but not least, Woolgirl Sock Club Kit, very neat, always lots of goodies . . .

Promise to blog more - football season almost over. Not that I'm happy about that or anything. I'm just happy to be home a little more on weekends.
Have a great week.
